The dance of Macabre, the living and the dead, and snow! This content contains spoilers.Really dug this book. Who is Silas? It was sweet and wistful and the illustrations really helped to push the narrative along as well as setting the dismal but still hopeful mood. There are no summaries for this title yet.In this graphic novel adaptation of Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book the author brings the story of Nobody Owens, a boy who has been raised in a graveyard, to life. Graphic novel version of the Neil Gaiman classic - After the murder of his entire family, a toddler wanders into a graveyard where the ghosts and other supernatural residents agree to raise him as one of their own.Nobody Owens is a normal boy, except that he has been raised by ghosts and other denizens of the graveyard. My favourite section has to be the 'Dance Macabre' chapters. As he grows he explores his isolated world, only gradually daring to step beyond the safety of the gates. Especially Silas' reaction to Bod's questions at the end.The first volume of a glorious two-volume, four-color graphic novel adaptation of Neil Gaiman's #1 New York Times bestselling and Newbery Medal-winning novel The Graveyard Book, adapted by P. The change of visual artists with each chapter brought back many happy memories of my first foray into Gaiman's SANDMAN series (ala TPB). The house with the chicken legs and witch was a small glimpse of The Books of Magic, as Gaiman is awesome with cross-overs.
All the ghosts, unlike the living, are outlined in blue rather than black ink, and along with the spindly style, and desaturated hues, they capture the tone of the book. Bod sat, concealed from anyone, living or dead, who might come looking for him, under the arch that separated the Egyptian Walk and the northwestern wilderness beyond it from the rest of the graveyard, and he read his book. Bod receives an unusual education, primarily History and English from the ghosts, and broader guidance from the shadowy Silas. Russell not only maintains the feel of the original, but the pacing as well through his use of the layout, and carefully chosen moments. Expand/Collapse Synopsis Neil Gaiman's perennial favorite, The Graveyard Book, has sold more than one million copies and is the only novel to win both the Newbery Medal and the Carnegie Medal.
